Analysis for Cohesive Soils
In the case of cohesive soils the stress exponent is equal to zero. For normally consolidated soils we obtain from the definition of the tangent modulus of deformation (by modification and subsequent integration) Et equation for the settlement of layered subsoil formed by cohesive soils in the form:
where: | σor,i | - | vertical component of geostatic stress in the middle of ith layer |
σz,i | - | vertical component of incremental stress (e.g. stress due to structure surcharge) inducing layer compression
mi | - | Janbu modulus in the ith layer
hi | - | thickness of the ith layer |
